Grommet curtains – Sewing your own curtains can be a fulfilling creative project, as well as a money-saver. There are many different styles of curtains to choose from, including curtains that hang on a curtain rod with grommets. Grommets are usually two-piece metal or heavy-duty plastic rings, snap on the fabric, which gives you a hole to insert a rod, especially for shower curtains. Measure the length of your windows down where you want the curtains to hang. Add 6 inches to allow for folding and hemming. Measure the width of your window.
Cut the fabric to the required lengths and widths of grommet curtains. A drapery panel is usually twice the width of the window the dresses. Lay a panel of your drapery fabric right side down on a large, flat surface. Turn the raw edges of the fabric at the bottom and the sides of 1/2 inch and over 1/2 inch. Use pins to hold the fabric and sew the edges in place.
Fold down the top edge of your curtain 4 inches to stabilize the fabric for your grommets. Hold the fabric in place with pins and sew straight across. Cut a length of the ring tape to fit the width of grommet curtains. Pin it to the back of drape where you made the fold. Sew across the ring band at the top and then the bottom. Cut the fabric inside the ring to give your drape glide smoothly on the drapery rod.
